Our lowers are assembled by SOTAR-trained master armorers in North Carolina using components manufactured exclusively in the USA.
The Spatha-9DC lower makes substantial improvements to the EM model intended to improve the performance and ergonomics of an already great weapon system.
The Spatha-9DC retains the following features of the EM model:
- Aero Precision EPC Stripped Lower Receiver
- The Aero EPC lower has the best combination of features, quality, and value for a dedicated PCC. It offers unlimited potential for a build.
- Everything Mil-Spec or Better
- We build our lowers with true Mil-Spec or better components. It is important to emphasize this because many claim to use Mil-Spec components, but use components made of inferior materials/quality. We refuse to cut corners to save a buck.
The DC model includes the following upgrades to the EM model:
- Ambidextrous Bolt Release: Magpul Battery Assist Device (B.A.D.) Lever
- The ability to engage and disengage the bolt catch with your shooting hand has many benefits. The Magpul B.A.D. is the O.G. and our favorite option (it also doesn’t require you to cut your lower).
- Buffer System: JP Enterprises Full Stroke H2 Silent Capture Spring (SCS2)
- The buffer spring is one of the most forgotten/neglected components of the AR, but is also one of the most important. The JP Enterprises SCS2 is the undeniable king of competition buffer systems, offering reliability, performance, and reputation above all others.
- Buffer Retainer Pin: JP Enterprises BRP
- This may not seem like much of an upgrade. But getting the SCS2 out of a receiver extension with a standard buffer retainer pin is a pain; and without a buffer retainer pin, you’ll probably be scooping your SCS2 out of the dirt more than once. The JP Enterprises BRP is specifically design for use with the SCS2 buffer system, and eliminates both issues.
- Buttstock: Magpul CTR Buttstock
- The MOE in our FC model is great. But the CTR takes it to the next level. It improves the ergonomics and operability of the weapon system, and the patented locking mechanism offers bombproof security and eliminates the annoying stock rattle.
- Grip: ERGO 2 Suregrip Pistol Grip
- The grip is your most tactile interface with the weapon. The ERGO 2 Suregrip has an ergonomic profile for all-day comfort and a rubberized and textured grip surface for confident manipulation in all conditions.
- Pivot/Takedown Pins: Battle Arms Development Steel Enhanced Pin Set
- Pivot and takedown pins aren’t sexy and you may not use them often. But when you do, you want disassembly of the receivers to be a piece of cake. For the DC level, we upgrade the pins to Battle Arms Development pivot/takedown pins, which are slightly longer, have an improved grip surface, and have depressions on the left side of the receiver to aid in disengaging.
- Receiver Extension: Aero Precision Enhanced (Anti-Tilt) Carbine Receiver Extension
- For the DC level in the carbine series, we upgrade to an anti-tilt receiver extension. This upgrade improves the alignment of the bolt carrier group in the upper receiver, which prevents unnecessary resistance, premature wear of the tube, and has a secondary benefit of anti-rotation functionality. Please note that, while we try to have a color-matched Aero Precision Enhanced buffer tube, we may substitute with a black Aero or black P.O.F. anti-tilt receiver extension, based on availability.
- Safety Selector: Radian Talon Ambidextrous Safety Selector
- We like to be able to control our weapon from either side of the receiver. Most people do. For the DC level, we move up to the gold standard in safeties: the Radian Talon.
- Trigger: Timney PCC Trigger
- You should always use a PCC-specific trigger in your PCC build; the added stress of the direct blowback design of the pistol caliber AR will break standard hammers (this is why most triggers will come with a “not for PCC” disclaimer). Timney makes the best PCC-specific trigger on the market. We upgrade to their premium PCC trigger for the DC level.
Critical finishes and dimensions of individual components are inspected before they we accept them into inventory. To learn more about our quality control gauging and inspection, visit our Quality Promise page.
Each upper receiver includes the following assembly and QC steps (full schedule of all 82 points of inspection for our builds can be found in our Quality Promise page; note that some do not apply to the PCC):
- Receiver extension (buffer tube) threads lubricated with AeroShell.
- Receiver extension castle nut torqued to 40 ft. lbs.
- Receiver extension castle nut properly staked in two locations.
- Full lubrication per our standard procedure.
- Full safety and function check per our standard procedure.
- Live fire test with 3 rounds of Federal 147gr (troubleshoot and correct root cause of any malfunction).
